Why a Personalised Approach Works

The thinking behind working with your biology, rather than a plan built for the average.

Where Good Advice Stops Fitting

If you are on this page, you have most likely followed a good deal of sensible health advice already. Much of it was sound. Some of it helped… for a while.
And then, at some point, it stopped fitting: the same effort stopped producing the same result, and the usual explanations did not quite account for it.

That experience is common, and it is not a sign that you stopped trying. More often it points to something about the advice itself, and about how it was built.
This page explains why an approach matched to your own biology tends to work when general advice has run out of road, and what that actually means in practice.

Built For The Average, Given to Everyone

Most health advice is built for the average person. That is not a criticism of the research behind it. Good research sets out to find the one approach that helps the greatest number of people, and when it finds it, that result becomes general guidance. Eat this way. Move this much. Aim for these numbers.

The difficulty is what happens next. A finding that holds true across a large group is handed to each individual as though it were true for them specifically. But an average describes a crowd, not any single person standing in it. Your biology, your history, and the way you live are particular to you, and guidance drawn from what helps most people can still miss what is true for you. When it does, the usual conclusion is that you did something wrong. Usually nothing was wrong. The advice was simply never built for your body.

Why The Old Equation Stops Balancing

There is a second reason general advice can stop working, and it has to do with time rather than difference.

A capable body adapts. Years of responsibility, pressure, and steady output ask a great deal of the systems that manage energy, stress, and recovery, and those systems adapt to meet the demand. For a long while that adaptation is invisible, because you simply keep delivering. But adaptation has limits. At some point the body reaches the edge of what that pattern can sustain, the effort stays the same or increases, and the return keeps shrinking. Many women describe this as the “old equation” (usually calories in vs calories out) no longer working.

This is what we at Personalised Health & Wellbeing Solutions, call the Biological Ceiling – the point at which a body that has adapted to years of load reaches the limit of what effort alone can ask of it.

Understanding this changes what comes next. If the body has reached the limit of an old pattern, the answer is not more discipline applied to the same pattern. It is a more precise approach, matched to how the body actually works now.

What Working With Your Biology Looks Like

In practice, a personalised approach starts with a clear picture of you, built from measurements and your health history. It doesn’t require genetic testing, and you don’t need to arrange a round of tests before we can begin. We work with your phenotype (the way your genes are expressed today) using measurements, signs, and what you already know about yourself.

Where a picture is more complex, further investigations are genuinely welcome. Blood tests, imaging, and anything you and your doctor are already working with can all add clarity. And if you have a GP or specialist involved in your care, I’m very happy to work in with them.

From there, the plan is matched to your own biology rather than a generic template: the foods, the movement, the timing, and the daily rhythms that suit your body specifically. When the approach fits the body it was made for, the body can start responding again. Less pushing, more working with your natural systems, so change takes less effort and holds.

This draws on a number of fields that rarely sit together in one place: chronobiology and the study of natural rhythms, endocrinology, epigenetics, and the growing science of individual variation. Bringing them together is not about complexity for its own sake. It is a more accurate answer to a straightforward question – what does your body, specifically, need now?

Who’s Behind This?

The thinking here comes from an unusual combination of backgrounds. Michele Scherr is a Personalised Wellbeing Specialist who works with capable women in midlife who notice their body responding differently and want to understand why. Her perspective is drawn from service in the Australian Defence Force, emergency nursing, precision health, and current doctoral research into phenotype and chronobiology.

– Former RAAF Squadron Leader and Australian Defence Force Nursing Officer, with emergency and operational experience across multiple deployments.
– Registered Nurse (retired), with a nursing and emergency medicine background since the early 1990s.
– Accredited with Health Coaches Australia and New Zealand Association (HCANZA).
– Member, Precision Health Alliance (PHA).
– PH360 Endorsed Precision Health Coach.

Where to From Here

If this way of thinking makes sense of something you have been experiencing, there are a few different ways to begin, from a short introduction through to fully individual coaching.

You are welcome to look through them on the services page first. Or, if you would rather simply talk it through, the best next step is a short, no-pressure conversation.

We get to know you a little, hear what you are hoping for, and work out whether we are a good fit. It’s also your chance to decide the same about us.
